Insurance primer: get an answer for your plan

Ask about the medicine, the reason for care and the plan that covers you.

Have the proposed product name beside you when you call your plan. Request a written answer, or note the name of the person who explained it and what they told you.

Ask what your plan covers

“Does this plan cover this product for the condition being discussed?”

“Does the doctor need to send records before the plan can decide?”

“If permission is needed first, who asks for it and how will I hear the result?”

If someone calls that step prior authorisation, ask them to explain exactly what they need. Ask what happens if the request is turned down.

Ask where the prescription would go

“Does the plan require a particular pharmacy?”

“What would I pay for the medicine, and which other bills are separate?”

“If this is not covered, can I have the reason and the review process in writing?”

Keep payment help separate from coverage

As of September 28, 2026, the maker describes patient-help programmes with eligibility terms; that is not a promise that a given person qualifies.

Ask the plan and the programme to explain their own parts of the bill. Keep those answers beside the care estimate so that gaps are easy to spot.
