Visceral fat is the fat around organs deep in the belly.
That was the fat measured in the main tesamorelin trials.
Read the fat measure in context
In the main trials, deep belly fat fell with tesamorelin, while body weight changed little.
Ask what the doctor plans to measure in your case. “How will we tell whether this is helping?” is more useful than a promise about how you will look.
What happened when treatment stopped
In the trials, researchers replaced tesamorelin with a dummy injection for some people after 26 weeks. Deep belly fat returned in that group over the next 26 weeks.
A dummy injection looks like treatment but has no active medicine. Researchers use it as a comparison. Ask what a longer plan, and a decision to stop, would involve.
